Otto Glowacz (1932–2024)
Otto Wladyslaw Glowacz, 91, of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, at Ascension Living Resurrection Place in Park Ridge, IL. Otto was born in Kochlowice, Poland in 1932 to Alfons and Maria (Klyta) Glowacz. Through adolescence, Otto was impacted by World War II and Poland’s occupation. In 1952, Otto married Elizabeth Stepniewski and together with their two children, Lesley and Eva, they pursued the opportunities available in the United States when they immigrated in 1963 with help from family. They made a new home in the Chicagoland area where they raised their children, and later enjoyed time with their grandchildren until Elizabeth’s passing in 1986. In 1988, Otto married Jadwiga Maj. Together with their two cats, Siva and Michka, they enjoyed hosting family at their home on Belmont Avenue. Otto loved Jadwiga’s delicious cooking and baking, and he happily kept watch over the oven to ensure the kolaczki came out just right. He faithfully attended St Ferdinand Catholic Church in Chicago always dressed in his Sunday best. Otto enjoyed time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed it when soccer was involved. Otto was a very involved and respected member of the A.A.C. Eagles Soccer Club and Academy for over 50 years. He devoted time and energy to the community of Polish American athletes including serving as the secretary of finance. Otto worked for many years at Bodine Electric Company and after retirement he enjoyed driving for Hertz car rental company. Otto is survived by his loving wife Jadwiga of 35 years; his children Lesley (Anna) Glowacz, Eva (Roger) Gertz; and stepdaughter Beata (Andrew) Partyka; grandchildren Mark (LuAnn) Glowacz, Greg (Erica) Glowacz, Tracy Chamberlin, Roger Gertz, Jessica (Scott) Voelkner, Rose and Eliza Firosz, Tess, Stephanie, and Nicholas Partyka; great-grandchildren, Danny and Tyler Glowacz, Alex and Grace Glowacz, Jonathan Trudeau, Stefani Bax, Isabella Perrelli, Piper Perry, Nathan and Liam Voelkner. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (d. 1986).
Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, February 12, 2024, at Pietryka Funeral Home 5734 W. Diversey Avenue Chicago, IL, Funeral Services will begin with prayers at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Pietryka Funeral Home, Chicago; before processing to St Ferdinand Catholic Church, 5900 W Barry Avenue Chicago, IL to celebrate Mass at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL.
