Maryann A. Dowmon (nee Madro), age 94, fell asleep in the Lord September 6, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Henry (Hank) E. Dowmon. Loving mother of James (Dina). Proud grandmother of Michael (Kristen) and Nicholas (Catherine). Devoted daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Madro. Dear sister of the late Fances, Ted, Ed, Wally and Val. Cherished Auntie May and friend to many. Mary met her beloved Hank while they both worked at White Cap Company in Chicago. They married in 1957 and welcomed their son, Jim, the next year. Throughout the years, Mary’s home welcomed all, from Sunday family gatherings, birthdays and holidays to an always-open door for Jim’s many friends. Mary always had a hot dog or a “nice ham sandwich” to offer hungry teens. And if you weren’t hungry, that was ok. She set the plate in front of you anyway. If you admired her earrings, she would take them off and offer them to you. Mary’s generosity extended far beyond the material. Her love of family was clear by her words and actions. Compliments and encouraging words flowed freely from Mary. She doted on her “wonderful” grandsons, attending all their games, concerts and school events and proudly displaying school pictures, awards and programs on “The Wall of Mike & Nick”. As her grandsons married, she embraced their wives and loved them as her own grandchildren. When people would tell her to “have a nice day”, she always responded, “Make it a great one!” Her positive attitude toward life, even when things were hard, was inspirational. Mary’s cheerfulness, bright outlook and limitless love will be missed by all who knew her.
