Maria Wałkuska, 82, of Chicago, IL passed away to the Lord’s embrace on August 28th, 2024 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Maria was born and raised in Giełczyn, Poland. She married Jan Wałkuski in 1961 and raised three daughters. Maria emigrated to the United States in 1985 where she resided for 39 years. She was a life-long devoted Catholic who frequented Mass services and the sacraments, prayed daily, and shared her love of God with others. Maria enjoyed spending her free time in the garden and with family and friends. She claimed her greatest wealth in life was her family, and the wealth multiplied as her family grew with each generation. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her sister Anastazja (Gerald); two daughters Elżbieta (Andy) and Agnieszka; eight grandchildren: Marcin (Emily), Justyna (Colin), Adrian, Damian (Patrycja), Monika, Adam (Marlena), Zbigniew (Agnieszka), and Anna (Marek); and twelve great grandchildren Paulina, Maciej, Jakub, Angelika, Piotr, Amelia, Jakub, Kacper, Blanka, Martin, Otto, and Emilia.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jan and Aniela, three brothers: Józef, Aleksander and Jan, and daughter Ewa.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3,2024at Pietryka Funeral Home, 5734 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60639 from 4pm to 8pm.
Her funeral mass will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 4th at Holy Trinity Church, 1118 N Noble Street, Chicago, IL 60642. Burial will be at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, 8600N Milwaukee Ave. Niles, IL 60714.
