Helen Gazdzik
A lover of travel, singing Polish songs and most of all, her family, Helen Gazdzik of Chicago was a vibrant, generous woman. Helen was born in Poland in a small town, and she survived World War II at a young age. She met her husband later in that same town. When they moved to the U.S., she and her husband helped around two dozen people emigrate from Poland. Her house was often full of friends, good food and lots of stories. You could often hear a Polish TV show playing in one room and a Polish radio station playing in her kitchen. She worked as a seamstress, but her dream was to work for an airline. In one year, she learned how to drive and changed careers to work for Northwest Airlines. Helen was a joyful woman who enjoyed gardening, shopping and driving. There wasn’t a person who didn’t like her. She is survived by a daughter, son and daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and many friends. She passed away Saturday at the age of 90.
