On April 10, 2023, Gladys M. Danko passed away at the age of 87. She was born August 18, 1935 in
Chicago, where she met the love of her life Robert E. Danko Sr. Together they raised 4 children, Christine
Colletta (Art), Robert Danko Jr (Leann), Robin “Tweety” Gabor (Mitchell), and Renee Polo (Steve).
Through the years they had 12 grandchildren, Yvette (Bob), Chad (Gretchen), Mitchy (Cheryl), Gina (Jeff),
Kristin, Stephanie, Kevin (Felecia), Chasidy, Kenny (Amy), Korrin, Shannon (Dennis), and Robert III
(Amanda).
She is survived by her son Robert E. Danko Jr, her sister Alice Mehner and brother William E. Sturm. She
is predeceased by her husband Robert E. Danko Sr, her daughters Christine Colletta, Robin Gabor, and
Renee Polo, son-in law Mitchell Gabor, and her granddaughter Chasidy Gara-Polo.
Gladys loved every one of her children and grandchildren, but she was especially proud to be a great
and even GREAT-GREAT grandmother to over 20!
If you asked anyone, Gladys was always the first to help others in any way she could. She spent most of
her working years as a teller at Lakeview Bank and in the Rectory of St Michael Church. She also
volunteered as a candy striper at Rush Hospital and played the accordion and tuba for the Salvation
Army. When she retired, she continued trying to make a difference in people’s lives by working with
local politicians and being an advocate for seniors and their rights.
Gladys loved being around her family and she would spend countless hours babysitting and watching
over her grandkids, and great grandkids whenever she got the chance. She loved going to family parties,
especially during Christmas, where she would play Santa for all the kids.
Gladys loved to laugh and be silly. She was always trying to put a smile on everyone’s face. She was the
epitome of unconditional love, and she will forever be missed.
